Detail
This section addresses the history and evolution of Iran's flags from antiquity to the present. The symbols of Iran's flag have changed over time: from the mythical Derafsh Kaviani and the Lion and Sun emblem that symbolized Iran for centuries, to the green-white-red tricolor. After the 1979 Revolution the Lion and Sun was replaced by the stylized 'Allah' emblem, and the phrase 'Allahu Akbar' was added along the edges of the green and red bands — changes that reflect the country's political and identity transformations.
